In January 2012, the Pew Internet and American Life Project presented data focusing on how e-patients (those who use the Web to seek health content for themselves or others) use social networks like Facebook.  Key insights presented by Pew include:

  • Many e-patients are using social networks to find health content for others
  • 34% are reading others' commentaries
  • 18% are using social networks to find others with a common condition
  • 8% of Twitter users get health information from the service
