In 2011, the Global Institute for Emerging Healthcare Practices developed a white paper, "Should Healthcare Organizations Use Social Media?," designed to:

  • Provide a state-of-the-field report on the impact of social media on various health organizations
  • Lay out a roadmap for organizations thinking about leveraging social technologies
  • Help organizations develop a strategy for how social media can help achieve strategic goals at the marketing and organizational levels

GSC makes a number of recommendations in the paper, including:

  • Don't "wait and see" to determine if social media is a passing fad.  Success requires experimentation today.
  • Develop a policy that will help your organization navigate social media.
  • Use social media as a means of gathering insights into your customers, competition and organization.

The white paper can be viewed below.
