A Focus on Native American Health Communications
According to Kent State Magazine, "there are more than 560 federally recognized tribes and dozens more state recognized tribes in the United States. Each one has its own unique traditions, ceremonies and origin stories." Unfortunately, the health of Native populations is under threat more than ever before. Native Americans suffer from disproportionately high rates of drug abuse, alcoholism and poverty.
Despite this, efforts to communicate with people from these populations about health and wellness are rarely publicized and can be difficult to find. To help alleviate this problem, we have developed a series of articles and case studies focusing on Native American health communications. We think this information will be of use to health communicators working with Native populations and the general population. Click the links below to access this content.
