2009 Analysis Investigates How Newspapers Are Using Twitter

In December 2009, the Bivings Group, a Web development and public relations firm, released an in-depth analysis of how newspapers are using Twitter.  The firm looked at "300 profiles from the top 100 newspapers in the country."  Some of the key results of the study include: 

  • Newspapers send out an average of 11 tweets per day
  • Many newspapers use Twitter as one-way communications channels, as their Twitter streams focus on promoting stories rather than repliying or retweeting content published by others
