Over the past several years, health blogs have become increasingly popular around the world. Two separate studies conducted by Envision Solutions, LLC and the Pew Internet & American Life Project illustrate how patients, medical professionals and others have embraced blogs to communicate about a range of issues.
According to a survey conducted by Envision Solutions the total U.S. health blogging population stood at
13.6 million as of August 2008.
In 2009, Pew found that 13% of "'e-patients' create or work on their own blog." Pew defines e-patients as the percentage of U.S. adults (61%) who go online for health information (click the chart below to enlarge).
