Although seniors make up a small proportion of Web users, their numbers are increasing.  In December 2009, Nielsen reported that "in the last five years, the number of seniors actively using the Internet has increased by more than 55 percent, from 11.3 million active users in November 2004 to 17.5 million in November 2009."  Senior women are more likely to use the Internet than men.

In addition:

  • Nearly half are going online to research personal health and medical-related content
  • 8.2% of social network and blog users are  65+
