Mobile technologies have great potential to optimize health management and communication. The Texting 4 Health conference, which took place on February 29, 2008 at Stanford University, highlighted how cell phones were being leveraged by medical professionals, public health organizations and others. The event was sponsored by a number of well-regarded health organizations, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Heart Association.
According to the event's organizers: "Text messaging is the only viable interactive means of reaching people on a massive scale around the world. This [conference] highlighted the significant, untapped potential for changing health behavior through this channel."
The conference Website features a number of case studies and other resources focusing on the use of mobile phones for health communication.
